Piedmont Art Walk

by Mucho ·

Piedmont Art Walk is a one-day event where sidewalks, gardens and front lawns across Piedmont, California turn into outdoor exhibits for the city's artists. Families and art lovers walk the route from house to house, and Mucho's San Francisco studio was asked to build an identity as friendly as the event itself.

The symbol turns the word Art into a little character on two legs, walking along with everyone else. It shows up everywhere: on yard signs and pole banners, on a This way sandwich board, on totes, on a red boot used as a donation box and stencilled on park posts. The type follows winding paths, and the copy keeps it light, with lines like Get lost in art on the volunteer tees and Peace out, see you next year to close the day.

Everything runs in one bold red with white, set in A2 Gothic. A stamp card challenged kids to collect stamps from six artists. The walk saw a big jump in visitors and volunteers, raised $17,500 for art programs in Piedmont public schools, and gave out more than 100 red lollipops along the way.
