Bar Rêve
Bar Rêve is a new cocktail bar in Brooklyn, New York, inspired by Belle Époque Paris, a time known for optimism, style and long nights out. DutchScot built an identity that feels classic and refined, but with a bit of a dream in it. "Rêve" means "dream" in French, and that idea runs through everything.
The wordmark is a custom script based on European script typefaces, but the letters behave in a surreal, playful way. The 222 from the bar's street address turns into a second symbol that looks like the "zzz" of someone asleep. With photographer McGuire McManus, the studio shot on film with lots of movement, a photographic take on the loose brushstrokes of Impressionism.
A set of dream symbol illustrations animates from state to state across the collateral. On the website you "drift up" instead of scrolling down. The first cocktail menu pairs ten drinks with ten Impressionist paintings, each with a free verse poem written as if by someone just waking from a dream inside the painting.
